HAPPY
by
Jillian Koopman

fading news of trees

birds on distant pilgrimages

his face next to mine in morning

his face always next to mine

where it goes when it goes

like a snake to a low hole

where i’ve left my beginnings

because i forgot to stake my claim

before light blinded me
