SHARP THINGS
by
Mary Lyon

In me

something stirred

when the bone handle

cracked on the paring

knife my long-gone love

once gave to the pool

of our household goods

and neglected to take

when he left. So fine,

its heft and grip. I won't

find another that cuts

just so. The thing wasn't

pretty. Neither was he.

But oh...

in me

he carved himself deep.
